Know your cycle

Under the 2026 RBT requirements, newly certified or recertified RBTs need 12 PDUs during a two-year cycle. Activities count only after that cycle starts. Check your BACB account and the current handbook for your specific transition and documentation requirements. Ongoing client-specific supervision is a separate obligation and cannot simply be counted again as professional development.

Find legitimate no-cost learning

Ask your employer about eligible in-service training offered during paid work time. Look for free ACE provider events that explicitly offer RBT professional development; confirm eligibility, attendance requirements, and the proper PDU documentation before investing time. Behavior-analytic university coursework may qualify but is seldom free. Save records as the BACB directs.

  • Choose a topic you can apply in a case discussion, then bring one question to supervision.
  • Keep an activity log with provider, date, topic, units, and certificate or form.
  • Do not assume a general webinar or ordinary supervision meeting earns PDUs.
