Begin with listening

Ask about the family’s priorities, preferred names, communication style, and routines. Explain the session in everyday language and make room for concerns without judgment. A family’s goals and culture matter to meaningful care.

Stay in your role

Be punctual, protect privacy, and use only approved channels for client information. Share observations without diagnosing, promising outcomes, or changing goals on your own. Bring requests outside your role to the supervising BCBA. Accept feedback with curiosity and repair misunderstandings promptly.

Make progress usable

Notice whether a skill works during real routines and with different people or materials. Coordinate with the supervisor and family on how to support generalization without turning every family moment into a demand.

Requirements and clinical guidance evolve. Verify the current rules and adapt any suggestions to the learner’s individualized plan and supervisor direction.
